A sitz bath is one of the easiest, natural, wonderful method that exists to treat and relieve hemorrhoids.  You sit in the sitz bath and allow the waters to soothe the irritated area around your anus and rectum.

A sitz bath can be taken in your tub but often it is taken with a plastic insert for your toilet.  This smaller volume of water with the toilet attachment means less solution is needed, but either way, it works.  Sitz bath bowels, tubs, inserts, whatever you want to call them can be bought at any drug store or at large retailers and grocery stores with a pharmacy.

Sitz Bath Recipes

The most used recipe is 1/2 to 1 cup of epsom salts to a gallon of warm water.  You can also use ordinary salt. Either way it is a very inexpensive treatment. Sometimes you will see herbal sitz bath recipes and mixes but always with them you will find the Epsom salts, regular salt, or sea salt.  Either of these is the key element.  Don’t think you need the other stuff at the higher cost.  The important thing is to start sitz bath treatments during the early symptoms and do them regularly.

If you take the sitz bath in your bath tub remember that you don’t want to dilute the salts too much so keep the water to just as much you need.  When you do it in the bath  pull your knees up toward your chest and sit back on your tailbone.  This will open the affected area to the healing touch of the bath.

Sitz baths are helpful for hemorrhoids and for severe cases can be taken several times a day.  Usually 10-20 minutes is good.
